Still Plaster Boarding!!

Published by admin in Blog on December 17th, 2009 | No Comments »

No exciting news this week on the new build.  Same old same old at the moment, plaster boarding.  Did the first floor last week and working through the ground floor this week, although the floor area is larger on the ground floor so we have more to board.  Stu and I have a system in place, I mix up the board adhesive and cut the boards to size and try to keep ahead of him, and he follows along sticking the boards into position.  We hope to have all the boarding finished in time for Christmas.  After that it’s a case of getting the plasterer in to do his thing.

After Christmas Stu and I are off working in Peterborough, then have some work to do over near Northampton.  So that should keep us busy for a few months.

For those people who have followed the blog this year, that’s if there is anyone!!  I would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year.

Still Plaster Boarding

Not a lot to mention this week on the blog.  Stu and I are working hard as usual but all our work still revolves around plaster boarding.  We got all the first floor walls dot and dabbed with plaster board across the week and all the bedrooms are now ready to be plastered.

The sparky was still doing his first fix, but hoped to be completed by the end of this week or early next week.  Now we have the first floor completed, we can move down stairs to the ground floor and do the whole thing all over again!

All Systems Go For The First Fix

Stu and I made a start on plaster boarding all the rooms in the new build, making a start with all the timber stud walls on the first floor.  This allowed the electrician to make a start on running all the first fix cables and putting all his socket and switch points into position on the block walls.  The electrician and I went over the plans and drawings to make sure everything was included and going in the correct locations, and you wouldn’t believe how much thought and work goes into this stage of the build.  Things look like a spaghetti mess with cables all over the place, but at this stage you don’t get second chances.  They always say the most important cable is the cable you forget to put in!  The last thing you want to be doing is chasing out the plaster board you have just fixed to be running in another cable or having to re-locate the back boxes and doing the job twice.

With the sparky all sorted, over the week Stu and I moved from room to room boarding the ceilings and then boarding the stud walls.  On Friday we had the plumber on site to run in the first fix plumbing, i.e., heating pipe work and hot and cold feeds to kitchen, utility, bathroom and en-suite.  This was a lot simpler to plan and Kevin the plumber was very efficient in his work and only needed half a day to do his stuff.  Nice and easy.

By the end of the week the sparky had completed the first floor electrics which meant Stu and I could make a start on ‘sticking’ the plaster boards to all the block walls the following week.
